at Hilliard

The learning journey at Hilliard Christian School begins in Kindergarten, where the Early Years Framework provides a balanced approach to learning that fosters children's natural curiosity and wonder about the world. As the students progress through the Primary Years (Prep - Year 5), they engage with age-appropriate pedagogies and the Australian Curriculum, utilising Marzano's New Art and Science of Teaching Framework. The Encounter Adventist Curriculum, which is a Bible-based program created collaboratively by Adventist pastors and teachers, is used to teach Bible study at Hilliard Christian School. This innovative curriculum takes a holistic approach to reading the Bible, utilising a variety of values-based methods of learning to help students fully grasp Biblical truths and develop a meaningful relationship with God.

In addition to academic learning, Hilliard Christian School offers a range of co-curricular activities to support the holistic development of students. Students have the opportunity to participate in Interschool Sports with Junior SSATIS, which includes popular sports such as Netball, Soccer, Basketball, Swimming, Athletics, and Cross Country. Through these activities, students learn important skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience.

Students in Primary also have an opportunity to participate in an instrumental music program that offers private tuition in strings, classical guitar, and piano. The program is designed to help students develop their musical talents and foster a lifelong love of music. Additionally, there is an ensemble and choral program that allows students to collaborate and perform together, showcasing their talents in public performances.

Nurturing and pastoral care are top priorities at Hilliard, and the school has a dedicated program to teach students how to resolve conflicts and build positive relationships. The Bridge Builders program is specifically designed to equip students with the language and skills necessary to navigate conflicts in a healthy and constructive way. This program emphasises the importance of empathy, active listening, and respectful communication, providing students with practical tools to resolve disagreements and build stronger relationships with others.

In addition to the Bridge Builders program, Hilliard Primary students have opportunities to participate in camps and excursions that promote personal growth, teamwork, and leadership skills. These activities provide students with opportunities to step outside their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and develop resilience. The school's outdoor education program, in particular, helps students develop self-confidence and self-awareness while fostering an appreciation for nature and the beautiful, Tasmanian outdoors.

Overall, Hilliard Christian School is committed to providing a supportive, caring, andnurturing environment that promotes the holistic development of each student. Through its pastoral care program, co-curricular activities, and outdoor education initiatives, the school aims to foster a strong sense of community, character development, and a lifelong love of learning.
